Medical alert systems can be expensive, and it's easy to see why. After all, even the most basic home units, which aren't exactly easy-on-the-eye and are often made from low-cost plastics, come with a wealth of top features, including the ability to connect you to a 24/7 monitoring service at the press of a button.
Services like that don't come cheap. Even at the lower end of the market, you could find yourself with a $20-sized hole in your pocket every month. Still, that's a low price to pay for peace of mind and, if you stick with the cheapest options while making sure you're getting good value for your money, it could pay for itself in the long run.
The Cheapest Medical Alert Systems
To help you save money when purchasing a new unit for your home or pocket, we have included some of the most affordable medical alert systems below. Note that we haven't simply clicked the metaphorical "Low-to-High" button on all medical alert systems. Instead, we tried to focus on the ones that have good reviews, impressive features, and a solid reputation.
It's good value for your money, as opposed to the cheapest possible option, and that's key when your health and wellbeing are at stake.
MobileHelp = $19.95 to $24.95 per Month
At the time of writing, the MobileHelp Classic is so cheap that you'll want to buy two of them. It’s priced at less than $20 a month and while this is supposed to be temporary, it has been active for at least a couple of months.
The strange thing about this promotion is that it only applies to the Monthly option, so you'll actually pay more per month with the Annual option, but the Monthly payment plan also requires you to pay a one-time activation fee.
The MobileHelp Classic comes with a few extra freebies (including free shipping and a free lockbox). It is easy to install, doesn't require a landline, and has a range of 1,400 feet, with 24/7 monitoring from responders in the United States.
In the event that the promotion has ended and it's no longer within your budget, you may want to take a look at the MobileHelp Wired. It's currently listed for around $5 extra per month and while that is still an affordable option, it looks excessive when compared to the discounted MobileHelp Classic, which is clearly the better option.
Bay Alarm Medical In The Home = $19.95 per Month
The Bay Alarm Medical In The Home device offers many of the same benefits as the MobileHelp Classic and for the same price. The difference is that this price is not temporary and should be active when you read this.
The base unit promises "crystal-clear" communication and while it is wired-up, it can be removed and reinstalled with ease, allowing you to take it with you when you stay at a friend's house. You can pay a little more for the cellular option and if you have an extra $5, you can add two wall buttons to your order and place them in high-risk areas such as the bathroom and stairs.
Medical Guardian Classic Guardian = $29.95 per Month
Although the Classic Guardian is a little more expensive than the other options on this list, it's still a very viable option and comes with some solid features. Additionally, if you opt for the Annual package, you can bring that price down and pay the equivalent of only $27.45 per month.
The Classic Guardian features a help button that works up to 1,300 feet from the base unit and connects to a 24/7 monitoring service when needed. Fall detection is available for $10 extra per month and certain packages come with a free lockbox.
