General Information

The community of Stellar Care at Collwood Terrace was specifically constructed to serve residents in memory care.  It is a family-owned and operated senior community with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Its owners acquired the building, renovated it, and turned it into an established community that offers a high level of service for those with memory loss.

Nurses are present at all times along with licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and Med-Techs. At Collwood Terrace, there are 3 different daily activity programs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In addition, it hosts assisted outings every week for both low-functioning and high-functioning residents. Importantly, Stellar Care places it residents with differing levels of care on separate floors. Only professional caregivers who are trained in dementia care are staffed.

There is plenty of natural light at the community. Collwood Terrace has rooms on a particular side of the community. Residents gather in common areas, which have plenty of seating and televisions.

In addition to restaurant-style dining, housekeeping and linen services, residents also gain access to an emergency response system, telephone and cable ready suites and a beauty salon and barber shop.

The staff of Collwood Terrace are trained in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.  There are nurses on staff 24 hours a day, plus licensed vocational nurses (LVN’s) and Med-Techs. There are generally more than 9 staff members for daily programs. There is also a visiting occupational therapist, a visiting speech therapist, and a visiting dentist.

Location

Collwood Terrace is conveniently located off El Cajon Boulevard in Normal Heights in Mid-City of San Diego. The surrounding area is not the highest-end town in San Diego, but it is up-and-coming. While it is a busy road, there seems to be enough space between to knock down the sound of traffic. While the community itself is secured, the general vicinity is not ideal for safe, quiet walks. It is also close to San Diego State University, so it does tend to get busy throughout the school year.
