Built in 2015 and opening its doors in April 2016,  this community provides casual, coastal living in a warm, comfortable environment. The warmth is felt when walking through the front door. General Information

Pelican Landing is an Assisted Living and Memory Care community located in the fishing community of Sebastian, Florida, on the edge of the Indian River Lagoon. This warm, welcoming community is decorated in welcoming  blues, greens and golds- the colors associated with a beach-side setting. The grounds are adorned with an assortment of local plants that provide a welcoming first-impression. Residents enter through the front door into an inviting atmosphere with an easy to follow layout. The gathering  area, such as the dining and community room, are located centrally, for easy access, with the resident apartments located discreetly off to the sides. The community is two stories, quiet and well-constructed.

Residents are encouraged to participate in activities such as gardening, a variety of clubs and community outings. The staff is well-trained and encouraged to approach caring for seniors as a calling and an opportunity to learn and serve. All of the staff members have special training for dementia and memory care and The Director of Wellness is a Certified Memory Care Practitioner.  The Executive Director, Dana Ryder, is passionate about caring for the residents. He strives to lead by example as reflected in the core value that he chose for himself, which is ‘genuine’. The physical building and the staff, when put together, create a warm-hug, cookies-and-milk type of feeling for the residents. It feels like coming home.

Pelican Landing also offers several outdoor areas for their residents to enjoy, including a large, open, covered porch complete with comfortable, relaxing armchairs. Outdoor areas are designated for activities such as stand up gardening. There is also a pagoda available to the residents for relaxation and lighted walkways allow the residents to enjoy the outdoors at night as well as during the day. Residents in Memory Care enjoy a courtyard as a centerpoint of the community with all of the resident apartments surrounding. This encourages the Memory Care residents to be out, engaged and active.

Community Details

Dining: Residents at Pelican Landing are offered a wide variety of choices when it comes to dining. The residents in Assisted Living are welcomed into a restaurant-style dining room, complete with servers and several options to choose from on a daily basis. They resource local produce and even serve seafood from their own backyard, as they are positioned right on the Indian River Lagoon. The kitchen staff offers over 30 different lunch and dinner options each week and they are open to adding the resident’s own recipes into the rotation as well. All dietary restrictions will be followed for residents in Memory Care. Residents are also welcome to invite their family or friends for special gatherings, which can be catered by the Pelican Landing staff.

Care Services/Staffing: The staff at Pelican Landing is encouraged to look at caregiving as a calling and a gift, an opportunity to help others,  not just a job. Pelican Landing takes a very pro-active and involved approach to staffing their caregivers and staff. The potential employees go through a series of interviews, starting with a large group interview. Once they pass the group interview, they have a one-on-one with a department head and then on to an interview with the Executive Director. The three-part interview process allow associates to come in for the right reasons. It provides an opportunity to learn, grow and understand all aspects of caregiving. Pelican Landing closely follows all State Regulations when staffing.

Activities: The activities at Pelican Landing are varied and research-based. In Memory Care they offer a program called INTO (It’s Never Too Late. It is a computer based program that can be utilized by residents to access information on travel, art, music, TV shows, puzzles, spirituality, military information, positive activities, exercise programs, etc. Families and residents can use it together to assist in reminiscence therapy. In Assisted Living they offer groups, games,  baking classes, exercise classes and community outings to sporting events, concerts and festivals, museums, art galleries, historical attractions,etc.

Pelican Landing offers speech, physical and occupational therapy services on-site.

Pelican Landing Assisted Living and Memory Care is located in the small, fishing village of Sebastian, Florida. It is located on Highway 1 and within a  couple of blocks of the Indian River Lagoon, local beach access and several waterfront restaurants. No, Pelican Landing does not require a long-term contract. They offer their residents a month-to-month contract.

What types of health assessments are performed routinely?

All of the residents at Pelican Landing are evaluated before moving in, at move-in and then again within 30 days of moving in. If there is not a change of condition, evaluations are performed every 90 days going forward. If there is a change of condition, the resident will be re-evaluated and the family will be contacted. A new/ updated plan of service will be drafted at that time.

What types of community events does Pelican Landing offer?

The residents at Pelican Landing will have the opportunity to participate in community events including but not limited to golf tournaments, concerts, museums, dining out, theater, festivals and historical attractions.

Are the apartments furnished at Pelican Landing?

No, the apartments are not furnished. Residents are able to bring their familiar items, furniture and keepsakes with them to Pelican Landing.

Is there a licensed nurse on staff at all times?

Yes, a licensed nurse and highly trained staff are on-site 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week.

Is Pelican Landing  able to accommodate a special diet?
