Personal Comfort Brand Profile

The Personal Comfort brand has a long and interesting history, with claims of an invention that has changed the mattress industry and links to some of the biggest companies in the space. It is the sister company of American National Manufacturing, which serves as the company’s manufacturing partner, and it sells a range of number beds, adjustable bases, linen and pillows, mattress toppers, and other bedroom essentials.

About Personal Comfort

Personal Comfort was founded by Scott Stenzel and Craig Miller, a lifelong entrepreneur and an innovative businessman, respectively. Miller claims to have manufactured the original number bed, which he produced back in 1988. This bed featured a dial indicator that adjusted the air inside the mattress, making it firmer or softer.

It’s a feature that has been gradually tweaked and improved over the years and one that is now installed in Personal Comfort’s complete range of number beds.

The Mattress

The variability provided by Personal Comfort’s number beds can help people with ailments ranging from back pain to hip problems and more. Instead of taking a chance with a plush, medium, or firm bed-in-a-box, you can use the dial to create the perfect firmness and adjust as needed.

The Classic Series is the company’s basic model, as well as its most cost-effective one. With a retail price beginning at just $891 and regular sales that knock it down to $499, this is a high-tech mattress that won’t break the bank. Of course, that price increases to $899 for a queen-sized bed, but that’s still a very reasonable sum considering the quality.

The Classic Series is 7”, USA-designed, and has a 45 on the sleep number scale. It features a breathable quilted cover for a luxurious finish, and this cover is removable and washable.

For a little more luxury, take a look at the Advanced Series, which ranges from 11 to 12 inches in thickness and has a sale price beginning at $1,299. The Elegance series is the next highest tier, and there is also a range of Smart Beds, which is one of our personal favorites.

The Smart Beds feature dual adjustability and changes that you can make using your phone. These beds can measure your heart rate, sleep cycle, and other key parameters, and they even come with their own personal consultant.

Of course, with all this tech and comfort, Smart Beds aren’t cheap. In fact, the A10 Queen Smart Bed costs over $5,000, and that’s when it’s on sale.

Other Products

The number beds are what Personal Comfort is best-known for, as these products are the company’s biggest sellers, but it also offers a number of accessories. Some of them are well worth considering.

For instance, it sells a range of adjustable bases, providing you with additional support and making it easier to get in and out of bed. These include the aforementioned Smart Beds, which are at the higher end of the scale, but there are also cheaper options known as Power-Flex.

Pillows, sheets, mattress toppers, bed bases, and headboards are available as well.

Ordering Information

As with all furniture and mattress dealers, Personal Comfort has regular sales and deep discounts, and it’s hard to know if the listed retail prices have ever been valid. This isn’t a huge issue, but it certainly makes our job harder.

We’re happy to recommend any of this company’s mattresses based on the most recent sale price, but if you focus on the retail prices these affordable mattresses become rather expensive.

For example, the A3 King Size mattress is currently available for $1,599, but the retail price is fixed at $2,595.41. That’s a massive difference. In fact, the price difference is greater than the entire cost of an A3 Twin XL, which is the same mattress three sizes down.

This is probably just a marketing tactic. In fact, we’re almost certain that it is, but on the off-chance that it’s not, you should wait for the next sale before you make a purchase. If there isn’t a sale available online, contact the company directly, and see if they can offer you a discount. Companies that are so liberal with their sales nearly always have a few extra discounts up their sleeves.

Free shipping is available on all orders, 0% APR financing is offered on purchases over $4,999, and there are extended warranties and sleep trials. However, these seem to change from product to product, and some exclusions may complicate things.

For example, most mattresses include a 120-Night Sleep Trial, but this doesn’t apply to any mattresses in the Classic Series and there is a limit of one risk-free trial per household. You are also required to pay a return fee, depending on the type of mattress and its condition.

In any event, make sure you read the terms and conditions before you complete your purchase.

Personal Comfort Reviews

Currently, Personal Comfort has over 2,100 reviews on Trustpilot, and these reviews have earned the company a total score of 4.4. This is in the “Excellent” range, but there are enough bad reviews to cause concern.

The majority of these negative reviews complain about the product and also note that customer service is unhelpful when they initially contact them. There are a few things we can take away from this.

Firstly, mistakes happen, and no matter how good your product is, some people will hate it and complain about it. Some of the greatest films, books, and poems ever created have accumulated scathing reviews on Amazon. You can’t please everyone.

The only reason concern, if true, is the company’s alleged callousness. However, if you look at the other reviews, this doesn’t seem to be the case. Furthermore, Personal Comfort has a habit of responding to bad reviews and trying to resolve issues, doing what it can to appease the customer.

These are not the actions of a company with bad customer service, although it’s fair to assume that there are mistakes and oversights every now and then.

Overall, Personal Comfort reviews are positive, and we don’t think there is anything to worry about by any means. If you are still concerned, though, which is understandable for such a large purchase, just complete your purchase using a credit card. If you can’t get a response to your complaints, make your frustrations known on social media or Trustpilot.
